David founded Global Brands Group with Jonathan in 2003 and focuses on acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
David is also the Co-Chairman of Olive Group, a leading, global provider of integrated risk mitigation and security solutions. David previously worked in fund management and corporate finance with UBP, Banco Garantia and Flemings. He graduated with a B.A. Hons. degree in Law from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Jonathan has 20 years experience in branding, distribution and licensing on a global basis, within both retail and promotional sectors.
Jonathan previously co-founded Global Inc. Limited, which sold licensed clothing products to the UK and European retail market; Global Accessories Limited, which designs, manufactures and distributes casual footwear and apparel in the UK; and Watermelon Limited, a Licensing and Design Consultancy, which provides design solutions to retailers, licensors and manufacturers.
Mark has 23 years of worldwide consumer products marketing, brand management, retail and licensing experience.
Mark Matheny is the Chief Executive Officer for Global Brands Group (GBG) since March 2005 and Co-Chair of the Board of Directors since 2006. Within four years at the helm, he grew GBG from a start-up licensing firm to one of the world’s largest independent retail, product and promotional licensing companies.
Under Mark’s leadership, GBG amassed a powerful portfolio of long term rights to some of the world’s largest sports, entertainment and lifestyle brands: Fédération Intérnationale de Football Association (“FIFA”), PGA TOUR, Fédération Intérnationale de Basketball (“FIBA”), Warner Bros. Consumer Products and IPC Media, among others.
Prior to joining GBG, Mark worked for Burbank, California-based Warner Bros. Consumer Products (“WBCP”), where he was Executive Vice President responsible for the division's international product, promotional and retail licensing operations, and its worldwide interactive games and publishing units. He is credited with building WBCP's International Licensing Operation as an industry leader.
Matheny joined WBCP in 1989, as one of its first hires in the international licensing group. Over the years, Mark held a number of positions including: General Manager, responsible for writing WBCP's international first sales, marketing strategies and operations guidelines; Vice President of International Business Development, responsible for creating strategic partnerships; during his tenure at the company he also managed Latin America, international promotions; and from 1994 to 1997 Matheny was located in London, serving as Managing Director for Europe, Middle East & Africa.
A consumer products, marketing, retail and licensing veteran, Mark is a notable figure in the industry. From 2006 to 2008, he served as Chairman to the licensing industry’s world’s largest trade association – Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (“ LIMA ”).
Mark graduated with top honours from Oklahoma State University where he majored in Economics, and Organisational Theory. He also attended the Ph.D. program in Political Science at the University of California at Los Angeles .
FIFA and Football Business Unit
Prior to joining Global Brands Group in 2007, Simon served as Reebok’s vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
In 2005, Hawkins achieved sales in excess of $1 billion for Reebok, managed a sales force in excess of 177 employees and grew the EMEA region into one of Reebok’s largest global regions.
Before joining Reebok, Simon developed international football business and managed regional sales in the United Kingdom for leading athletic apparel manufacturer Umbro International. Simon graduated from Seaford College, Petworth, West Sussex.
Licensing - Sports
Neal has 15 years global sales and marketing experience in licensing. Prior to joining Global Brands Group, Neal worked for Turner International, Universal Studios and Warner Bros Consumer Products.
In 2004 Neal joined GBG and opened the company’s first offices in Asia, commencing with the Singapore which is now the company’s headquarters. Prior to getting into the licensing business, Neal received his Masters at Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies and got his start as a journalist in London, Hong Kong and Taipei, as well as working on several small business development projects in Eastern Europe on behalf of the Pew Charitable Trust.
Peter is a specialist in brand marketing. In his current role, he heads GBG’s global marketing division responsible for the brand development and marketing support services of the intellectual properties that Global Brands Group represents.
Previously, Peter was the Head of Licensing for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games where he worked across several Sydney 2000 Olympic Games divisions including brand marketing, sponsorship, consumer products, torch relay and ticketing.
Throughout his professional career, Peter has also held senior marketing roles in internationally recognised advertising, direct marketing, sales promotion and consumer products licensing organisations including Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Ogilvy & Mather and Foote Cone Belding.
Andrew is responsible for all banking relationships and financial management of the Company.
ACA qualified with Price Waterhouse, Andrew has extensive financial and commercial experience from his time spent with 3, BT, Sportal and Price Waterhouse looking at strategic investments, corporate alliances, business development and general finance.
Andrew joined the Company in 2004.
Acquisitions & HR
Chris joins Global Brands Group in December 2006, arriving from MTV Networks Asia Pacific, a part of Viacom Inc., where he was the General Counsel based in Singapore.
In this role he was responsible for all legal and contract risk management for the group's broadcast, licensing and digital media businesses and the commercialisation, management and protection of the group's brands and other intellectual property. Chris was Company Secretary and on the board of directors of the group's joint ventures.
Previously he was Regional Counsel for Royal Ahold NV in Singapore, handling investments, joint ventures and the operations of this major international food retailer and wholesaler. Chris started his legal career at Baker & McKenzie, London specializing in corporate and intellectual property law, before moving to Clifford Chance, Singapore. Chris holds a BA (Hons) Law from Durham University and attended the College of Law, York, England.
Dave’s responsibilities include overseeing the end-to-end business execution, working closely with all stakeholders to ensure world class service.
Prior to joining Global Brands Group in April 2008, Dave worked for 12 years within various divisions of the Adidas group, and most recently heading up European Operations for the Reebok brand for Europe, Middle East and Africa, responsible for customer relationship management across the region; in addition to ensuring best in sector product to market processes across the breadth of the demand chain.
